Clinical Presentation

An anal fistula small channel with its internal opening in the anal canal and its external opening in the skin near the anus . 

Causes includes 

  •  An infection near the anus causing abscess in the nearby tissue

  • Crohn’s disease

  •  Infections from Tuberculosis (TB) 

 

Sign & symptoms include

  • External opening on perianal region  

  • Pus or blood discharge 

  • Swelling 

  • Pain 

  • Skin irritation & redness around anus 

  • Bowel incontinence and constant pain that may be worse when you sit down, move around 

  • Have a bowel movement or cough etc.

 

Treatment includes  open / laser  fistulectomy .
